Q: What is the NSA Select Soccer Program?

A: We are the next level of soccer in the state of Georgia. It is designed for players and parents that want more out of the sport. This program is an athletic experience, unlike any other offered to the children of our community. It builds in our youth a sense of sportsmanship, friendship, and teamwork. It teaches how discipline, commitment, and mental toughness can lead children to their common goals. Equally important, it is FUN!

Q: In what age group will my child play?

A: View the Age Group Chart for the 2011-2012 soccer year. 

Q: Where will my child play?

A: Home games are conducted at Pinckneyville Soccer Complex, 4707 South Old Peachtree Road in Norcross, Georgia. View the field locations page. To find driving directions to other parks, look for the the fields you are visiting on the Locations page of the GA Soccer website or there will be a link to the fields on your Select game schedule once it is posted. Q: When does practice begin?

A: The date practices begin is at the discretion of the coach. However, for Fall 2011, fields will be open for Select teams – weather permitting – beginning August 8, 2011.

Q: How long is the season?

A: For Fall 2011: The first games will be September 10th. The regular season will end in mid-November. The spring season will start around February 1.

Q: What equipment will my child need?

 A: Soccer ball: Your child will need a soccer ball, either a size 4 or 5. U10 and U12 use a size 4, and U13 and up use size 5. Shin guards: Shin guards must be worn for all practices and games, and socks must cover them completely. Shin guards with ankle protection are recommended, especially for younger children. Cleats: Although not required, your child should wear cleats made for soccer. Football or baseball cleats may not be worn.

Q: What is the caliber of the coaching?

A: Norcross Soccer Association’s professional coaching staff has decades of experience coaching youth soccer. Each possesses national or state license(s). Also, many have experience playing the game at the highest level. We have very few parent coaches; however, even the parent coaches are licensed through the USSF, holding a minimum of a Class "D" License in most cases. We also require all coaches to advance their soccer education through continuing educational programs. We are committed to providing the highest caliber of coaching to your children! Q: How long are the seasons?

A: U9-U14 teams play two official seasons: fall and spring. U15-U19 teams do not play a spring season. The fall and spring are 10 games each over approximately a 12-13 week season. The team will also, generally, attend tournaments during each season. Some teams also participate in an Indoor league.

Q: How far do I have to travel?

A: Generally speaking, the furthest town is approximately 1½ hours away. Parents of younger players concerned about going to "far away" games need not worry! Older players often do have an opportunity to travel farther. A tournament schedule will be provided by our Executive Director of Coaching and is structured differently for different age groups. Additionally, team unity builds quickly when all parents want to help out! Rides to games are rarely a problem! In each season, you will generally have five home games.

Uniforms for the 2011-2012 year will be $170.00.

Teams also may do fundraisers to assist in not only defraying costs but also to build off-the-field friendships.

Q: Why are the fields closed, even when it hasn’t rained that day?

A: Pinckneyville Soccer Complex is a Gwinnett County park that is owned and operated by Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation. County personnel who work at the fields make the decision to open or close them. If heavy rains have occurred, the fields may not be in playable condition even after a day or two.
