If you have an NSA-related question that is not answered on this page, please let us know so that we may include it for our future visitors.
Q: In what age group will my child play?
A: View the Age Group Chart for 2007-2008 seasonal year.
Q: My son will turn 4 on October 24th. Is he old enough for the U6 coed league?
A: Georgia State Soccer rules state that your child needs to be 4 by July 31 in order to play this soccer year, which runs July-June. You may register him next summer for the Fall 07 season in our Under 6 program. We have started a new program, called Shooting Stars, for 3 and 4 year olds.
Q: My child is still on the small side for his age and he is only an average player. We think putting him in his age group will discourage him from continuing with soccer. Are we able to register him for a lower age group?
A: Unfortunately, Georgia State Soccer Association (GSSA) regulation states that a player is not allowed to play "down" an age division. The only way around this rule would be to play for a league that is not a part of GSSA, like a church league or the YMCA.
Q: My child’s skills seem to be more advanced than those with whom she is playing. Can we register her for a higher age group?
A: Yes, there is a place during registration when you are asked “Would you like the player to play up, Yes or No?” If you answer in the affirmative, this must be approved by the age-group coordinator.
Q: Where will my child play?
A: We practice at Pinckneyville Soccer Complex, 4707 South Old Peachtree Road in Norcross, Georgia. U6-U12 age groups also play all of their games her. View the field locations page. U14 and older recreational teams play at Pinckneyville Soccer Complex and other venues in the metro Atlanta area.
Q: When does practice begin?
A: The date practices begin is at the discretion of the coach. However, for Fall 2007, most recreation teams will begin the week of August 20.
Q: What equipment will my child need?
A: Soccer ball: Your child will need a soccer ball, either a size 3, 4, or 5. U6 and U8 use a size 3, U10 and U12 use a size 4, and U13 and up use size 5. Shin guards: Shin guards must be worn for all practices and games, and socks must cover them completely. Shin guards with ankle protection are recommended, especially for younger children. Cleats: Although not required, your child should wear cleats made for soccer. Football or baseball cleats may not be worn.
Q: How competitive is the Recreation Program?
A: NSA forms divisions grouped by equal talent. This allows for equally-matched, age-appropriate, talented children to compete. Kids will not have a negative experience in this environment. Kids will progress at their own team’s pace. We provide the proper age-appropriate coaching to assist in their development. At these ages, the teams are as competitive as the players choose to commit.
Q: What is the caliber of coaching in the Recreation Program?
A: All parent coaches are encouraged to earn the appropriate Georgia State license for their particular age group. We also encourage parent coaches to advance their soccer education through continuing educational programs. We are committed to providing a high caliber of coaching to your children. In fact, we now have a new Director of Coaching for Recreation, who will be working with parent coaches to elevate the level of training provided to Recreation players.
Q: When does the season begin and end?
A: Games for the Fall 2007 season begin on Saturday, September 8 and will run through mid November.
Q: How long are the seasons?
A: We play two official seasons: fall and spring. The Fall and Spring seasons are 10 games each over approximately a 12-13 week season. Some teams elect to compete in a tournament designed for Recreation players; however, this is completely optional and up to each team
Q: What does it cost?
A: Fees associated with the Recreation Program may be found on the main Registration page. We also have available a confidential Work-for-Play scholarship program to promote participation for those with financial concerns. Contact Mari Wall via email at mari.wall@norcross-soccer.org for more information about scholarships at NSA.
Q: Why are the fields closed, even when it hasn’t rained that day?
A: Pinckneyville Soccer Complex is a Gwinnett County park that is owned and operated by Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation. County personnel who work at the fields make the decision to open or close them. If heavy rains have occurred, the fields may not be in playable condition even after a day or two.
